Certificate in Learning Islam Through Al-Quran and Science (CLIQS)

ABOUT THE COURSE
CLIQS is a 1-year Islamic learning course that is based on a unique approach in teaching Islam to adults. Each topic begins with a relevant Quranic verse that students have to read together. Discussions on the topic will involve the usual religious viewpoints and also logical arguments / scientific rationales, where applicable, that could help students understand and better appreciate the topic taught.

PREREQUISTES
1. Able to recite Al-Quran
2. Age 16 years and above

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
The medium of instruction is English.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of course, students will be able to:
1. discuss the relevance of Islamic knowledge to the modern world
2. explain the logical and/or scientific justifications behind some of the Islamic rulings and principals
3. identify the structure of Islamic learning
4. appreciate Islamic Syariah as primary source of guidance

3. Akhlak (Ethics)
4. Seerah (Prophet’s history)

DAY AND TIME
Every Saturday, 12.00 – 3.30 pm.
Class commences on Saturday, 12 Jan 2019

SEMESTER
There are two semesters.
Semester 1 is from January to April 2019.
Semester 2 is from July to October 2019.
There are 16 sessions for each semester.

SUBJECT TIMETABLE
Two subjects are taught for each semester.
Each subject is 1.5 hour long.
Subject 1 is from 12 pm to 1.30 pm.
Subject 2 is from 2 pm to 3.30 pm.

INTAKE
There are two intakes: January and July. Students who enroll for January intake will graduate in October the same year. Students who enroll for July intake will graduate in April the following year.

ASSESSMENTS
There is no exam for this course. Students will be assessed on attendance and formative type of assessments which include, but not limited to, quizzes, assignments and presentation in class.

AWARDMENT OF CERTIFICATES
Students who completed all four subjects will be awarded with a certificate.

Registration fee : $20
Course fee : $250 / semester
Material fee : $100 / semester
