Program Pendidikan Islam Lanjutan (PPIL)

ABOUT THE COURSE
PPIL is for those who wish to study in depth about Islam at college level. Course content follows closely GCE A Level subjects of Syariah and Usuluddin.

PREREQUISTES
Students need to have a pass in or graduate from either of the following:
1.  Program Pengajian Islam dan Al-Quran (PPIQ)
2.  Program Pendidikan Islam (PPI)
3.  Sijil Pengajian Islam Pergas (SPI)
4.  GCE O Level in Pengetahuan Agama Islam (IRK)

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
The medium of instruction is Malay.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of course, students will be able to:
1.  explain in depth Islamic belief system (Tauhid)
2.  explain the different rulings in Islamic laws for marriage and financial transactions
3.  compare and contrast the codification of Islamic Law in different periods of Islamic history
4.  illustrate the application of Islamic principles and maxims
5.  discuss the important issues in sciences of Al-Quran and hadith
6.  assess the appropriate applications of Islamic ethics in everyday life
7.  examine the meaning of selected Quranic verses and hadiths

MODULES
1.  Aqidah
This subject explores in depth the six tenets of Islam, their ancillary issues and scholars’ classification of Tauhid into Uluhiyat, Nubuwwat and Sam’iyat.

2.  Fiqh Mu’amalat
This subject discusses the various theories and rulings in Islamic Jurisprudence regarding legal and illegal financial transactions.

3.  Fiqh Munakahat
This subject discusses the various theories and rulings in Islamic Jurisprudence regarding marriage, divorce, custodial rights and estate distribution after death.

4.  Usul Fiqh
This subject explores the different principles and maxims of Islamic Jurisprudence from which Islamic laws are derived.

5.  Sejarah Perundangan Islam
This subject explores the history of codification of Islamic Jurisprudence from the time of the Prophet s.a.w to formulation of the Mejelle during the Ottoman Caliphate.

6.  Tasauf
This subject gives insights on spirituality in Islam, cleansing the self from undesirable traits, beautifying it desirable characters and the world of sufism.

7.  ‘Ulum Al-Quran
This subject introduces the students to the various discussion and topics concerning Al-Quran.

8.  ‘Ulum Hadith
This subject discusses the various classification of hadith.

9.  Hadith 40 & Sahih Bukhari (selected hadiths)
This subject explores the meanings of and lessons derived from selected hadith in Imam Nawawi’s 40 Hadith and Sahih Bukhari.

10.  Tafsir (selected surahs and ayats)
This subject explores the meanings of and lessons derived from selected hadith surahs and verses of Al-Quran.

DURATION
There are two modes for this course: Full-Time and Part-Time.
Full-Time duration : 2 years
Part-Time duration : 4 years

DAY AND TIME
Full-Time class : Monday – Thursday (4 days), 3-5pm  (Class starts on 7 Jan 19)
Part-Time class : Tuesday, 6.00 – 8.15 pm (Class starts on 8 Jan 19)

SEMESTERS
Semester 1 : January–May 2019.
Semester 2 : July–October 2019.

DISTRIBUTION OF MODULES FOR PART-TIME MODE
The following modules are taught over the 4 years:
Year 1 : Tafsir & Hadith | ‘Ulum Al-Quran
Year 2 : ‘Ulum Hadith | Tasauf
Year 3 : Aqidah | Fiqh Munakahat
Year 4 : Fiqh Mu’amalat | Usul Fiqh & Tarikh Tasyri’

INTAKE
Part-Time: Student can register at the start of every semester. Any missed module can be taken once the course repeats itself. Completing all modules is not necessary as each module is independent of other modules.

Full-Time: Registration is open till March every year.

ASSESSMENTS
Modular exam is at the end of every semester. Students need to get minimum 50% mark to pass.

AWARDMENT OF CERTIFICATES AND RESULT SLIPS
Result slip will be given to students who sit for the module’s exam. Students who pass all modules will be awarded certificate in Pendidikan Islam Lanjutan. Students are encouraged to sit for the subjects Syariah and Usuluddin at GCE A Level at the end of the course.

‘A’ LEVEL PREPARATORY CLASS
Darul Huffaz will organize a special preparatory class for students who wish to take the GCE A Level subjects Syariah and Usuluddin.

FURTHER STUDIES
A good grade for the Syariah and Usuluddin papers at A level will enable the student to apply for Islamic studies at Islamic colleges in Malaysia.

FEES
Registration fee is $20.
Fee is $350 per semester (inclusive of exam fees).
Students have to purchase the required textbooks from external parties. List of textbooks will be given to students once they they have successfully registered.
